“This Blade of Infinite Thinness”

I often imagine the present moment as a sort of horizon line between surface and sky, past and future. It is visible, but how impossibly thin it must be — existing purely as an intersection. To embrace the present moment, to truly live in the here and now, is to live inside that line. It cannot be held, only felt.

In late 2019, for reasons that continue to escape my understanding, I was drawn into a deep, sustained interest in spirituality and the genuine nature/truth of reality.

Until that point, I had neither the time nor interest in such things — busy as I was anxiously working, earning, spending, correcting, shoring up, battening down; dilligently crafting my identity and comparing myself with others.

Unlike so many of my interests which arise and quickly lose steam, this unexpected, totally-out-of-character awakening has endured, and leapt beyond mere intellectual engagement to compel me to make some very concrete/profound changes in my life, which I am in the fortunate position to manifest.

This space is devoted to sharing the guided meditations and other writings I am inspired to create. By offering things that are meaningful/helpful to me, I hope that others who are on (or on the edge of) a similar journey may find inspiration and connection.

An open, active, eager student of many spiritual disciplines, traditions, and teachers including Ram Dass, Richard Rohr, Eckhart Tolle and others, David’s primary practice community is that of Plum Village — a global Sangha of those who treasure and practice the Buddhist teachings of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. In February 2024, with his home community of Midwest Moon Sangha, David formally received the Five Mindfulness Trainings and received his lineage name of Serene Transformation of the Source.
